[ 01 ]WHAT THIS PAGE ISSCOPE

This page lists what the Rhode Island board of accountancy publishes for a CPA and a CPA firm: CPE hours and the reporting period, the ethics requirement, whether a firm permit or registration is required, whether peer review is required, the licence renewal cycle, and whether an out-of-state CPA may practise under a practice privilege.

It is built for owners of small accounting and bookkeeping firms, especially those licensed in one state and serving clients in another. Every entry is a snapshot of what the cited source published on the verification date; it is a research starting point, not licensing advice.

What to confirm.

Authority URL not read: https://dbr.ri.gov/divisions/accountancy and the DBR rules page (https://dbr.ri.gov/rules-regulations-board-accountancy) returned HTTP 403 with a bot-check page to WebFetch and curl on 2026-10-14 and again on 2026-10-20; the address is kept as the Board's page on the DBR site, which also serves the Board's guidance document (RIBOA_Guidance_20-1.pdf, read). Because the Board page could not be read, the research pass's quotation of it on renewal timing was removed; the Licence Renewal Cycle field rests on R.I. Gen. Laws § 5-3.1-7(a), (c) and 400-RICR-00-00-1 § 1.3(A), which set a February 15 filing date for renewal applications and June 30 permit expiration — confirm with the Board how it states the renewal due date. The Board FAQ PDF linked from DBR returned HTTP 404. rules.sos.ri.gov lists 400-RICR-00-00-1 as effective from 02/19/2023, with no later amendment listed on 2026-10-20.
