[ 01 ]WHAT THIS PAGE ISSCOPE

This page lists what the South Carolina board of accountancy publishes for a CPA and a CPA firm: CPE hours and the reporting period, the ethics requirement, whether a firm permit or registration is required, whether peer review is required, the licence renewal cycle, and whether an out-of-state CPA may practise under a practice privilege.

It is built for owners of small accounting and bookkeeping firms, especially those licensed in one state and serving clients in another. Every entry is a snapshot of what the cited source published on the verification date; it is a research starting point, not licensing advice.

[ 04 ]BEFORE YOU RELY ON ITCONFIRM

What to confirm.

(1) Lapse date: the Board FAQ says a license or firm registration not renewed by February 15 at 11:59 pm is lapsed, while the Board renewals page gives February 16 as the last day for late renewals and § 40-2-20(29) sets the renewal lapse date fifteen days after the February 1 renewal date; confirm the date with the Board. (2) Regs. 1-05 and 1-08 were amended by Doc. No. 5420 (final, State Register 50/5, effective May 22, 2026), which adds Reg. 1-05(D) on revocable grantor trusts and changes CPE credit increments to one-tenth hour per five minutes after the first credit hour; the quoted text of Regs. 1-05(A)-(B) and 1-08 is unchanged, but the Chapter 1 PDF linked from the Board still shows history only through May 26, 2023. (3) The Board CPE page still reads "CPE documentation must be reported by February 1st, 2026" (calendar-2025 CPE); confirm the date posted for calendar-2026 CPE. (4) Fees are from the renewals page read on 2026-10-20 ($95 CPA, PA and Accounting Practitioner; $60 in-state or out-of-state firm); the 2023 renewal insert showed $80 and $50. (5) Board notice: S.176 (2025 Act No. 34), effective June 30, 2025, added licensure pathways (bachelor's + 2 years' experience; master's + 1 year; bachelor's + 150 hours + 1 year), extended the CPA Exam window from 18 to 36 months, and states that out-of-state CPAs under mobility "remain subject to the Board's oversight and disciplinary authority."
