[ 01 ]WHAT THIS PAGE ISSCOPE

This page lists what the Vermont board of accountancy publishes for a CPA and a CPA firm: CPE hours and the reporting period, the ethics requirement, whether a firm permit or registration is required, whether peer review is required, the licence renewal cycle, and whether an out-of-state CPA may practise under a practice privilege.

It is built for owners of small accounting and bookkeeping firms, especially those licensed in one state and serving clients in another. Every entry is a snapshot of what the cited source published on the verification date; it is a research starting point, not licensing advice.

What to confirm.

Every field was confirmed on 2026-10-14 against the Board's Administrative Rules (effective June 1, 2014), the OPR's February 2026 CPA and firm instructions, the OPR fee schedule (updated 7/1/2025) and 26 V.S.A. chapter 1 as posted by the Legislature. Before the July 31, 2027 renewal, re-check the 4-ethics/8-accounting-and-auditing credit split and the firm peer-review upload with OPR: the posted Rules still cite § 74a (Rule 7.1, temporary registration) and § 78 (Rule 10.7(e)), which the Legislature's section index lists as repealed in 2019 and 2020 (effective October 1, 2020). No pending rule change was posted on the Board's Accountancy pages read in this pass; the Statutes, Rules & Resources page shows no rule effective date other than the June 1, 2014 Rules.
