[ 01 ]WHAT THIS PAGE ISSCOPE

This page lists what the Michigan board of accountancy publishes for a CPA and a CPA firm: CPE hours and the reporting period, the ethics requirement, whether a firm permit or registration is required, whether peer review is required, the licence renewal cycle, and whether an out-of-state CPA may practise under a practice privilege.

It is built for owners of small accounting and bookkeeping firms, especially those licensed in one state and serving clients in another. Every entry is a snapshot of what the cited source published on the verification date; it is a research starting point, not licensing advice.

[ 04 ]BEFORE YOU RELY ON ITCONFIRM

What to confirm.

Confirm the expiration year of the current cycle and the firm-licence and peer-review fees with LARA before renewing (the Board guides give 07/31 but not the year). The LARA Accountancy page links an 'Accountancy Rules Committee Work Group' page and 2025 and 2026 Board meeting schedules that were not read in this pass; MCL 339.720, 339.727a, 339.728 and 339.729 show no amendment after 2018 PA 81 on the Legislature's site (read 2026-10-14). Corrected in this pass: the peer-review trigger for compilations is limited by MCL 339.729(2)(c) to 'Compilations that are relied upon by third parties'; the 30-day notice in MCL 339.729(4) also covers a 'second consecutive pass with deficiencies rating'; and the current peer review rules are R 338.5501 and R 338.5503 (the rescinded R 338.5301–R 338.5351 sit in Part 3, Continuing Education, and are not identified as peer review rules).
